Kicking Cancer in the HinyViews: 335

Hello everyone, I’m sorry I haven’t posted in a while. It’s been a hectic four weeks. I have good news though.

I saw the oncologist on January 2nd. The bone scan results came back and the new cancer lesions are no longer growing and the old ones are healing up! YAY! Also, there were no other lesions anywhere else. The x-rays also showed that my lungs are clear so no spots there. Hallelujah!

Doc has changed up my treatments to this: I’ll be on Xeloda (chemo pills) indefinitely for now (one two-week cycle per month) and Aredia (bone drug treatment) will be every other month, and since I had a treatment in December, I didn’t get one on this visit! Super YAY! The next Aredia treatment is scheduled for February 8. The reason for the new changes is because my doctor wants to keep the cancer in control and make sure it stays in remission.

I can handle Xeloda. The side effects are bothersome but tolerable. The Aredia though… Gee whiz, it kicks my butt everytime.

Also, I have a visit scheduled with my regular doctor on January 18 for a full medical work up, just to be sure that nothing pops up anywhere else. Cancer is not only insidious but downright sneaky. I don’t know when I’ll be scheduled for the next set of scans and x-rays but it’ll probably be in April or June.

I feel like I’m starting to get my life back again…

Thank you everyone for your love, prayers, support, cheering me up, etc. I can’t express in words how much all of it has meant to me and Connie. There are so many reasons why people lose the battle to cancer and I think a large part of it is the quality of support they get. I’m so thankful that I have such tremendous support from all of you. and especially from those of you who aren’t afraid to yell at me and drag me out of the house for a brief walk in the beautiful sunlight. I can’t begin to tell you how much of an impact you’ve had on my life. The world is a MUCH better place because of each and every one of you.

Yes, life is so wonderful because of you. MUAH! MUAH! MUAH!

YES! CONGRATULATIONS GRACE! :-)
WOW! WOW! WOW! And I’ll keep saying WOW! what wonderful news for this New Year. You are kicking it’s behind! I can’t possibly tell you how happy I am for you and your family and friends.

You are a great support to me in my battle and have always been so encouraging to me. I rely on your comments and support so much to keep me going. I was so glad when I was able to share my good news with you a few weeks ago and now we have your good news. I say again WOW!

FANTASTIC !
Great News. Congrats!

Grace – I have tears in my eyes, such great news! That is so fantastic.

What great news to start the new year….. My thoughts and prayers are with you that you stay the course

Oh my dear Grace! I love hearing that word “remission”. Wow. I rarely hear anyone use it. I am so happy for you. We are celebrating your good news from one end of this country to the other. I just got back from chemo and got my PET scan results and they were good too. My multiple tumors all over my body were either significantly smaller or gone! There is only one stubborn one in my pelvis, but even that one was a little bit smaller. So halleluyah to us all. Let’s start the New Year on an up note. Gaile

That is WONDERFUL. I am so happy for you. May God Bless and continue to be with you.

Dear Grace; Yipeee you have good news. How wonderful and enlightening. I have a quick question. I was diagnosed last May and had a lumpectomy, radiation, and then this year they found through MRI, Bone Scans and CT’s that I have something which may be metatastic in my spine. They are now giving me a drug via IV once a month – called Aredia or Pamidronate, to help with bone pain and to fill in the gaps of the areas where the bone is weak. Since I am on Arimidex for the next 5 years I didn’t really feel all that bad about taking it. Now I find that I will be needing a port o cath as my veins are very small and it takes 3 or so nurses to get it right. No more fussing must get on it. So did you get anything like that for your bones? I am being told this is not chemo, just a bone enhancer and that I will be doing this for life (and you know I am hoping for a long one). Guess my bathing suit days are over if it jumps out and looks like a SCI FI appendage to a character looming on the beach. Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks. Louise
